In the meantime here are some useful links.

Request for help

You have accessed this information because you wish to request counselling or play therapy for yourself or you are completing this on behalf of a child/young person.

We are here to help individuals that are going through a difficult time or are struggling with their feelings, and this can be confusing and upsetting. We are here to help you understand you’re not alone and to help you find the support you need. Your therapist will help you talk through your experiences, thoughts and feelings and will listen and support you in a calm, non-judgemental way. This can help you reflect and learn more about yourself and help you to understand your thoughts, feelings, and emotions in more depth, to recognise what needs to change in order to enjoy your life more and to help you develop strategies for coping.

The SPACE is an independent charity working in the Cheddar Valley area to encourage and support good mental well-being in young people aged 04 to 17 years of age and we offer short term play therapy for children aged 4-8 years and counselling for young people aged 9-18 years. We are a small and friendly team of qualified therapists. You may not know too much about the therapy on offer and we are happy to answer any questions that you may have and what this means for you when you meet with our therapist. We offer an initial session to discuss your/your child’s needs to identify if our service is appropriate and if it feels right for you/your child. If it is, for play therapy we will offer weekly sessions for up to 12 consecutive weeks in addition to two initial assessments. Our counselling service offers 8 consecutive weeks plus and initial assessment as above.

There is no charge for therapy. However, for The Space to continue, we need to provide reports to funders so that we can access funding for our project therefore we need to share information collected from the therapy team. However, any reports will not hold any personal information or anything about the therapy work we do with our clients so identity will be protected.

What do I do next?

It is important that a child or young person makes their own decision to meet with the therapist.

If you would like to take the next step please complete the request for support form on-line or email it to info@thespacesomerset.org.uk. You will be contacted to arrange an initial appointment and following this you and your therapist will agree if and how you will work further together. If you have any queries, please email info@thespacesomerset.org.uk.

Please note: This service is available to children and young people who either live or who are educated in the Cheddar Valley area.
